DUCATI NORTH AMERICA, INC. 10443 Bandley Drive Corporate Headquarters
Cupertino, CA 95014 Tel: 408-253-0499 Fax: 408-253-4099 www.ducatiusa.com We are now just a few weeks away from the highly anticipated arrival of the all new 1098 Superbike. To ensure you have the correct information when discussing the 1098 with potential customers, we would like to address some of the more frequently asked questions. Please make sure that this memo is communicated to all your staff members. When will the 1098 arrive to your showroom? 1098 standard: Red - We anticipate initial deliveries in Mid - February, with all production delivered to you by no later than June. Yellow – Deliveries will commence at the end of April or beginning of May. 1098 S: Red - Initial deliveries will begin in February with the National Superbike Premiere followed by a steady stream of bikes in March, April, and May. Black – Deliveries will start in May and continue through June. 1098 S Tricolore - Deliveries will begin in March and continue through May. How will deliveries be prioritized? Customers with standing deposits will get priority allocation. Within the next week, Ducati North America will release a Priority Reservation Request procedure which will allow you to organize delivery of your pre-sold units. I have sold out of the 1098. When can I get more? We are currently working to secure as much production and start the 2008 Model Year as soon as possible. Can I change the colors of the standards on my original order? No, but keep in contact with your Area Sales Manager for possible trades with other dealers in your sales territory. How do I order the 1098 S Black? You can request up to 50% of your allocated 1098 S units in black. Pre-sold units will be given priority delivery. We will do our best to accommodate your request. Please notify your ASM. How can I get a 1098 mono or bip? All bikes are both monos & bips. Each bike will come installed with a piece that snaps onto the tail section to give it a “mono” look. The passenger seat and pegs will be in the crate with the bike. What makes the 1098 S different from the standard 1098? The 1098 S comes with fully adjustable Öhlins FG511 forks, Öhlins 46PRC rear shock and Öhlins adjustable steering damper. In addition, this model comes with forged and machined Marchesini wheels. The wheels provide less inertia and reduced unsprung weight (4lb reduction). This results in a lighter, quicker handling motorcycle. The “S” model also comes stock with a carbon fiber front fender and the Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA). What makes the 1098 S Tricolore different from the 1098 S? The 1098 S Tricolore comes standard with the full 70mm Termignoni 2-1-2 Exhaust System and the Drudi Performance Tricolore paint scheme. Is the Tricolore a limited model? This Tricolore will be a limited edition to the 2007 Model Year exclusively. Which models come with the Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA)? The 1098 S and the 1098 S Tricolore come with the DDA. The standard model does not come with it, but it is available as a Ducati Performance accessory (Part # 28620401A, MSRP - $299, Dlr. Net - $209). Why did Ducati choose to go with a single sided swingarm? The goal of the 1098 was to make improvements on all aspects of design, not just technologically but also stylistically. While the SSS is beautiful it also delivers improved performance over the double sided swingarm on our previous generation Superbike. The SSS is both lighter and more torsionally rigid and is unique in the combination of sheet aluminum and gravity cast elements. The owner’s manual is available online and lists the horsepower as 154 while everywhere else Ducati is claiming 160, why? The horsepower rating listed in the owner’s manual are the figures used for homologation and represent the horsepower to the rear wheel. The actual horsepower to the countershaft is 160. What is the availability of Ducati Performance Parts, specifically carbon fiber and Termignoni Exhaust? We are currently fulfilling dealer’s orders placed under the 1098 accessory campaign. Carbon fiber bodywork orders will begin fulfillment at the end of February. For exhaust systems, we have already begun shipment and expect to fulfill all orders by the end of March. Is there a Racer Order Program or Employee Purchase Program for the 1098? Since we are in a sold-out situation we will not be able to honor any Race Order Program or Employee Purchase Program requests until we fulfill all of the dealer’s pre-sold orders. What is Ducati planning for WSB and AMA Superbike racing? The current capacity rules for both World Superbike and AMA Superbike prevent us from entering. We saw a need to increase the displacement of our current twin engine to compete with the other manufacturers’ product offering. We are a racing company, we race what we sell. We hope that in 2008 the rules are favorable for our increased capacity bikes.
